Many are unaware that even the way ‘how’ we get angry warrants our deservedness to enter the inferno. Every injustice in the world; we can’t be angry at all of them because we didn’t make the world. We do not have the moral neither divine capacity to even handle it. Because men are sinful. And because men are sinful – our ‘anger’ is sinful. Because women are sinful – their ‘anger’ is sinful too. In fact: “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble” (Job 14.1). The most repeated verse I have used within my first five blog posts is this: ‘For all have fallen short of the Glory of God’ (Romans 3:23); we really are – at our very best deserving of God’s Wrath. Not just in this department but in all departments.
Human beings via the way we get angry – we tend to:
a) Pick and Choose WHAT OFFENDS US
b) Pick and Choose WHEN WE ARE OFFENDED
c) Pick and Choose WHO WE DEFEND
d) Pick and Choose WHICH PART OF HISTORY OFFENDS US the most
e) Pick and Choose WHY WE GET OFFENDED
In simple English: the partiality that we human beings have on display as mentioned and backed by James 2.9 states is the blunt truth and is raw sin. I am reminded of Blind Bartimeus in the Book of Mark 10:46-52. It is quite simply put – an absolute remarkable story – and a remarkable reality of how the redeemed (when given a revelation of who God is and how depraved the beating beast that reigns right under their own nose really is) respond to God’s Grace – by yelling out: “Jesus Son of David; Have Mercy on Me”
This man called Bartimeus: blind, rejected, spat upon, looked down onto, broken, lowly, poor in spirit, outcasted felt the presence of God near to him. When he heard that Christ was near him (Mark 10.47); he yelled out: ‘O Lord, Have mercy upon me’. That ladies and gentleman, boys and girls: is the language of redeemed when they see sin in this world. The language of the world; when they see sin in this world usually is ‘What on earth is wrong with them?’ But as Bartimeus yelled for Christ’s Mercies; the sinful human race around him didn’t rush to him with humanitarian good will gestures – they told ‘to ‘SHUT UP!’ and ‘PIPE DOWN!’ (Mark 10.48)
Now look closely at how Bartimeus responded; he didn’t say: ‘What on earth is wrong with them!’ – He yelled out to heaven even more: “JESUS SON OF DAVID; HAVE MERCY ON ME” (Mark 10.48) – then Jesus turned around and said ‘who on earth is that’ – that is exactly the kind of heart the kingdom is interested in. Bartimeus had given up on seeking to wrestle with words or intellect with the fallen hell-bound depravity that mankind was (and still is) around him – the worser the society around him grew – the more he looked beyond the hills (Psalm 121.1) and yelled for the Lord! To God be the Glory – the Lord came and by the Grace of the God the Father Bartimeus was able to receive Christ. God indeed opposes the proud – but gives Grace to the Humble.
Don’t forget those who yelled for God’s Mercies in the Bible even fellow mankind mocked and ridiculed and persecuted them:
The criminal at the Cross yelled out for the Lord’s Mercies even when a fellow criminal mocked him: LUKE 29: 39-43
The prayer of the tax collector yelled out for the Lord’s Mercies even when the prayer of the Pharisee mocked him: LUKE 18:9-14
Blind Bartimeus yelled out for the the Lord’s Mercies even when mankind mocked and heckled him to keep quiet: MARK 10:46-52
The woman with an issue of blood yelled out for the Lord’s Mercies by daring to touch the garment of Christ even when she had spent every penny on physicians and was looked down upon by society: LUKE 8:43-48
Jesus Christ himself was crucified willingly under the just wrath of the Father. A wrath that we deserve fell upon him; to those that crucified him – Christ yelled “Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing” (LUKE 23:34). What humility! This is why for the christian; the cross is everything! Our sin was imputed onto him and his righteousness was imputed onto me and those that believe.
Do not be fooled; the greatest sin in the world is beating within our chest; but for God’s Grace and the perfect work he completed through the perfect person of Jesus Christ at the cross – no gift would be given. Hell deserving sinners who drink from the narratives of the world will see themselves as victims and will blame’ – but hell deserving sinners who by God’s Grace in Christ Jesus see themselves as sinners will repent and share this living truth with the souls that God places around them within this perishing world.
Picking and choosing what makes me angry profits none. ‘Against you and you alone Lord have I sinned
<< Dear Lord; teach me to cry our for your mercies daily. Remind me every morning before I leave the bedroom that the greatest sinner is me and but for your grace – the wrath that fell upon Christ I deserve. Give me the Grace to know you more and love you more and serve you more. Amen >>
