The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector…. But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” Luke 18:11-13
The heart of a proud person represents a heart that all men and all women are born with. Romans 3:23 states ‘all have fallen short of the Glory of God’ – this means that all men and all women at their very best are hell deserving sinners. But for God’s Grace and and a revelation of His Supreme Holiness and Weighty Love within our hearts; we will forever be deservingly damned to an eternity without him. When the proud speak about evil in this world; they must first point to the sins of others or at the very least say that ‘others are more faulty than self’. But when the broken and humiliated (Matt 5.3) soul who by God’s Grace have been given a revelation that the biggest sin in their life is right underneath their own nose – when they speak of evil in this world – they will beat their chest and say ‘Lord have mercy upon me a Sinner!’
<< We as a human race are not victims deserving of heaven but sinners of hell. The saved and the redeemed rejoice in the wonderful thing God has done for them at the cross. But the unsaved and the self-serving will continue to pick and choose what offends them and will ‘blame’. >>
We live within an age and I live within a city where unfortunately many young people are taught to believe; that the biggest problem in their life are the sins of others. Once again because sinfully – all men and women and young people are fallen – it means we don’t have a choice of whether we drink vomit – we only have a choice of what vomit we choose to drink. Whether it’s the vomit of self-esteem and self-worth, the vomit of short term pleasures that can’t deal with long term pain, the vomit of idolising created things ahead of the creator himself or the vomit naming, shaming and blaming our faulty sins upon the actions of others labelling ourselves as ‘victims’ in the process.
In regards to the question above for example – ‘Do All men cheat?’A common London based video-blogger debate show kind of question that acts as yet another pool of vomit for our young city generation to delightfully smell, stir and swallow – and spew out again. The problem is not ‘all men lie’ – the problem is that ‘all men that I am attracted to – lie’. The problem is not that ‘All men cheat’ – the problem is that ‘All men that I like tend to like – cheat’. The problem is not that ‘All guys are the same’; the problem is that ‘All guys that I am interested in dis-agreeing with are the same’. It’s not a guy problem – but a heart problem. And of course the same is true of the reverse.<< Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find? (Proverbs 20.6) >>
It’s not even that good genuine godly men don’t exist. It’s more so that ‘my heart is so depraved that I’m not interested in the good genuine godly men that do exist’. One of the co-pastors at my local church in East London for example has been married 35 years plus with 11 children all raised and home schooled in East London! I was wowed when I went to my marriage counselling and was blessed by the biblical wisdom me and my partner (now wife) received at the time. I was also amazed not only because of his humble wisdom but also because of the lack of his ‘popularity’ amongst Christian circles. God indeed is the sole rewarder of those that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11.6). We understood further that the Bible is true. We as a human race are so fallen and we live in such a fallen world that all the depraved world is interested in is ‘sex sells, broken relationships, gossip and living life without God’ which is the exact opposite of God’s Love and Holy Word. We would rather spend hours speaking about issues that within the context of eternity are irrelevant than speak about how depraved human hearts are in need of the Loving and Holy Saviour.
<< It is not good to eat much honey, Nor is it glory to search out one’s own glory (Proverbs 25.27 >>
In fact, the question of whether ‘all men cheat’ was actually asked by the Prideful Pharisee in Luke 18.11 when he said: ‘They do cheat, but Thank you Lord that I am not like them’. This is in contrast to the Humble Tax Collector who said ‘No Lord, they don’t cheat. But I have cheated. Lord have mercy on me a sinner!’ Only those who have been given a revelation of just how wide and weighty His rich Love is, will understand just how hell deserving and damned they were but for His Grace. Hell Deserving Sinners who see themselves as victims will BLAME. But Hell Deserving Sinners who by God’s Grace see themselves as SINNERS will repent.
<< For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends (2 Cor 10.18) >>
The problems in this life does not lie in the hands of terrorists or in the hands of the opposite gender – the problem of this is us. Me and him and you. For those of you that are not believers – it is my prayer that the Good Father above will expose you the ocean of His Love that is found for you in Christ Jesus. And for the believer that has stumbled upon this writing – be encouraged – God is Graceful. But at the same time – be warned. Remember that if you ever leave your bedroom in the morning or evening believing that the most sinful hands are those of your absent parent, or those who maltreated you and your loved one or even those of the opposite gender – it is my prayer that you won’t engage in self-pity but in repentance and I pray that the Lord should widen your understanding of just how Holy and Loving He is but how wretched and wickedly sinful you are – but for his Grace – for this is my testimony.
